What Is a Registered Agent and Why Is It Required

Every U.S. state requires companies to maintain a 'registered agent' — someone with a physical address in the state, available during business hours. This is a legal requirement, not marketing: a company cannot be formed without designating one.

What does the agent do?

The agent's role is to receive official correspondence directed at the company: state notices, annual report reminders, tax notices, and potential service of process. The agent must forward these to the owner promptly upon receipt.

Can I be my own agent?

Anyone with a physical address in the state who is present during business hours can serve. Founders living abroad cannot meet this requirement and must use a professional agent service. Our packages include the first year of agent service; renewal is 4,200 TRY per year thereafter.

The cost of going without

A company whose agent service lapses loses good standing with the state. That loss can affect your banking and payment provider relationships; left uncured, the state administratively dissolves the company. And missing a service of process can mean losing a lawsuit without ever presenting a defense.
